Central Services Technology/Sterile Processing
The Central Services Technology Program prepares graduates for employment in hospitals, outpatient surgery centers and private industry. Central Service departments, also know as Medical Equipment Preparation, Central Supply or Sterile Processing, process and distribute sterile and other supplies throughout the medical facility. The demand for trained central service workers is high. Graduates are encouraged to undertake further training and education to advance to other health careers. The Central Services Technician Training program consists of a classroom/laboratory course and a clinical preceptorship. The classroom/lab course is a 12-week evening class. Two certificates are available in Central Service Technology. One certificate recognizes the completion of the classroom and laboratory experience, the other certificate includes 192 hours of clinical practice in a hospital setting.
