By completing the degree or certificate requirements, students will gain the ability to apply the principles of fire combat, fire protection organization, fire prevention, fire behavior, and building construction. Students will also gain proficiency in emergency medical assistance, handling of hazardous materials, emergency vehicles and apparatus. Competencies will be assessed regularly in compliance with the California State Firefighter I Standards and with the Los Angeles county certification process for emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
