Job description:
A home health aide is employed by private or public health care agencies to provide home care for the elderly or disabled. They assist patients with bathing, dressing, grooming and mobility. A home health aide may also prepare meals, clean rooms, do laundry and change bed linens. They provide emotional support and give instructions on self-care. Home care may include caring for children living in the home.
Work environment:
A home health aide works in patients' homes, often working alone or with periodic visits from a supervisor.
Training requirements:
A home health aide is required to complete a 160-hour training. They are licensed by the State of California Department of Public Health.
