Job description:
A health interpreter translates information between patients who speak limited English and health care providers. They interpret a patient's symptoms and medical history as well as questions from health care providers. A health interpreter also conveys diagnoses and treatment instructions in a culturally appropriate manner.
Work environment:
A health interpreter can work in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals and clinics. They may also work for health care interpreter agencies.
Training requirements:
A health interpreter is required to complete a certificate program, which range from 40 to 400 hours depending on the program.
