Surgical Technologist / Operating Room Technician

Salary range:

$36,857 – $55,183

Job description:

A surgical technologist or operating room technician assists in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses or other surgical personnel. They help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, and get patients ready for surgery by preparing incision sites. During surgery, a surgical technologist or operating room technician passes instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants.

Work environment:

A surgical technologist or operating room technician works in hospitals or private physicians' or dentists' offices.

Training requirements:

A surgical technologist or operating room technician is required to complete a nine to 24-month program, leading to a certificate or associate's degree.
