Medical Records and Health Information Technician

Salary range:

$25,852 – $42,267

Job description:

Medical records and health information technicians assemble patients’ health information. They make sure that patients’ initial medical charts are complete and all forms are completed and properly identified and signed. For facilities using health information technology, they ensure information is entered into electronic medical records. They regularly communicate with physicians and other health care professionals to clarify diagnoses or to obtain additional information.

Work environment:

Medical records and health information technicians may work in hospitals, doctors' offices or other health care facilities as part of the health administration staff.

Training requirements:

Medical records and health information technicians are required to earn an associate's degree.
